Nadia Bonfini has gone from being a
skiing champion to a furnishing and accessories designer, moving from Italy to
India to do so. By Purabi Shridhar
AS a skiing champ, Italian Nadia
Bonfini was used to travelling from an early age. But even she, as she scaled
down challenging slopes on her skis, never thought she would one day be a
furnishing and home accessories designer working in semi-tropical
India!
The 38-year-old Delhi-based designer for the French Company
‘Idea Plus’, who also does sourcing, says, “I always wanted
change, I didn’t want to get stuck.”
Obviously it was
her sense of adventure that got her to say ‘yes’ to an offer from a
Brazilian to work for a US buying house sourcing embroidery works from India.
From 1994, she started visiting India and for the last four years
she has been working with the Idea Plus group. She has even managed to open a
store in the tony 1, MG Road shopping complex.
