Arabian Tales

A LITTLE bit of glitter, a dash of gold and a splash of red -- voila -- you can look like a ravishing creature straight out of Arabian Nights. Cosmetic consultant Asha Hariharan gives our model Lunica Desai an Arabic makeover. This kind of make-up works well for a heavy-duty party or a wedding reception. Here's how to do it.

The Base
Apply a base of Dermacose shade 092 and 561 (blended together). For the second layer, to seal the base in, apply shade Chinese and 626B from the same series, as a concealer. This gives a finished look and hides any blemishes your skin might have. After the second layer is blended in, use waterproof loose powder by Dermacose shade 75702 from the Camouflage System range.

The Lips
To have lips done up like Lunica's, first cover them with a base, then outline them with a Cameleon lip liner (Dermacose shade 2011 matte). Take a very small amount of Russian Red from MAC and apply it on the lips, blending it into the lip liner.

The Eyes
The eyes are the most dramatic and important part of the Arabic look. First, use the Etude eye shadow in Plum BR 336 only on the eyelids. Next, choose a Plum liner from ROC to apply on the upper lashline. Line the inside of the lower lashline with the White Rimmer from Christian Dior.

To add depth to the red eye shadow, you can add a small amount of black liner from Kryolan over the liner. For the eyebrows, lightly brush the Plum shadow from Revlon over them. Give extra volume with generous amounts of Revlon mascara on the lashes.

For the final touch that gives the Arabic look its exotica, apply the Red Glitter Liner by MAC on the eyelids.

The Cheeks
Use Apple Red by Iman to highlight and contour your cheekbones. Apply it over the cheeks brushing up towards the temples. Dust a little over your forehead, nose and chin to even out your face colour.

The Hair
Wear your hair any which way with this look. You can either pin them at the nape of your neck with pins that have some form of glittering embellishment on them or leave your hair loose.
