Heavenly Bodies
As well as
keeping your skin soft and smooth, indulging in an aromatherapy bath and DIY
body treatment gives you the chance to enjoy a little me-time. After a nice soak
and a good scrub, apply a rich body moisturiser while your skin is still warm,
as it will absorb the product more deeply.
"Apply body scrub before a
shower. It makes your skin much smoother than when it's used on wet skin,"
suggests Judy Naake, Director of St Tropez
"I add aromatherapy oil to
the bath. The heat from the water makes the oil's healing properties more
powerful," says Michelle Roques-O'Neil, aromatherapist.
"I love
adding a few drops of apricot kernel oil to the water as it leaves my skin silky
soft. Body brushing's great too," reveals Liz Earle, co-founder of Naturally
Active Skincare.
Complexion Perfection
There's more to caring
for your skin than cleansing, toning and moisturising. Making masks and oils a
regular part of your routine feels indulgent and boosts the benefits of your
beauty basics. Regularly exfoliating your face also makes a difference to the
appearance of your skin and gives a really fresh glow.
"A
vitamin-packed face mask is the closest you can get to a professional facial.
Apply it in the bath to save time," suggests Sally Penford, The International
Dermal Institute.
"I'm a huge believer in facial oils - they're more
hydrating than creams. I use one that contains lavender before I go to bed as it
helps me sleep," says Amanda Lacey, facialist.
"I exfoliate at least
twice a week, mixing a face scrub with my cleansing milk to make it extra
gentle," says Susan Harmsworth, CEO, E'Spa UK.
Elegant Arches And
Lush Lashes
Nothing opens up your face and frames your features like
well-shaped brows and glossy lashes. Here's how the experts keep theirs in
tip-top condition between salon visits.
"I condition my eyelashes
three times a week with a cotton bud dipped in jojoba Vitamin E oil," reveals
Rhonda Beattie, senior beauty therapist, Michaeljohn.
"If my brows
lose their shape, I dab a matt, flesh-toned eye shadow over the areas that have
started to grow out," says Viashaly Patel of Vaishaly Beauty
Salon.
"My secret for pain-free plucking is to get hold of the hair
as near to the skin as possible," says beautician Linda
Meredith.
Maximise Your Make-Up
Spend five minutes with a
make-up artist and you'll pick up enough tricks of the trade to revolutionise
your beauty routine. It's not just what you've got in your make-up bag that
counts, it's what you do with it.
"If my skin needs brightening, I reach
for a skin illuminating lotion. It makes my skin look like I've just had the
most wonderful facial," points Ariane Poole, make-up artist.
"If I am
doing my own make-up, I always use my fingers to apply my foundation. It means I
can dab it on lightly. I use a brush on areas that need more coverage," says
make-up artist Lee Pycroft.
Luxurious Locks
Your hair will
never look its best unless you give it some regular TLC. Treat your tresses as
carefully as your skin and you'll be rewarded with great condition and shine.
"Apply a deep conditioning treatment once a week to combat the
drying effect of heated styling appliances," says Beverly Cobella, celebrity
hair stylist.
"I tuck a large scarf around my pillow every night -
the silk stops my hair from knotting while I sleep," tells Debbie Bhowmik,
senior hair technician at Michaeljohn.
"Apply a hair mask and then
wrap your hair in a hot, damp towel. The heat allows the product to penetrate
deeper," says hair guru Charles Worthington.
Fab Fingers and Top
Toes
For an ultra professional finish, prep your nails first and leave
plenty of time for drying.
"Buffing my nails to really high shine
before I paint them doubles the benefits of my base coat and protects my nails
from discolouring," says Sue Marsh, catwalk nail technician.
"Speed
up drying time by sealing the varnish with a drop of oil. If you smudge your
polish, dab a little varnish on your nail and smooth out the smudge, then
reapply your top coat," offers celebrity manicurist Elle.
