The Twenties Perspective

Are looks important?
Girls: Most of them said no (we don’t know if their fingers were crossed behind their backs), but Rima said, “It is important initially.”
Guys: With one exception, there was consensus that looks were very important (surprise, surprise). The ideal body type was slim with ‘good breasts’. While Yogesh said he has a fetish for dusky complexions and straight hair, Vipurva wants a girl with short hair. Amit was the only exception who said, “looks don’t matter.” Girls, you have been warned.
How important is the Money angle ?
Girls: The answers ranged from ‘not at all’ to ‘very important’. Rima took the middle path, saying, “It is fairly important.”
Guys: While most said it didn’t matter, Yogesh insisted he wanted a rich girl.
What’s their idea of perfect romance?
Girls: Cliches abounded — walking hand in hand on a beach or in the rain was a winner, while Roohi said, “It’s just important to spend quality time together; the time and place are really irrelevant.”
Guys: To talk for hours alone (yeah right!), to hold each other, to walk alone on a beach — surprisingly similar to what the girls said. Amit really indulged his fantasy and said it had to be “a candle-light dinner on a yacht in the middle of the sea, with tandoori chicken and wine and Bryan Adams’ music in the background.” Ooh la la!
How should you be wooed?
Girls: The answers ranged from ‘He should sing for me’ to ‘He should cook for me’. Rima said, “He should pursue me in style,” while Raksha said, “He should play hard to get.”
Guys: The boys’ views pretty much matched the girls’. ‘With her smile’ was one comment, while ‘dancing seductively’ was another ( Chandni Bar here we come!). For Vipurva, the girl had to woo him by cooking Chinese food, taking him on long drives and “sometimes she should sing me songs!”
Short-term flings or long-term love?
Girls: Most said long-term was preferable (you can’t admit to wanting too much variety, can you?), though Raksha said, “Long-term is boring. It becomes a habit after some time.”

Guys: They claimed long term was the way to go, though Chandan said more realistically, “It could start out being a short-term relationship, but could turn into a long-term one.”
Does sex play an important role in a relationship?
Girls: This was divided equally between ‘not very important’ and ‘very important’ (depending on how modest you were trying to be). But Roohi stated frankly, “Healthy and satisfying sex helps improve relations with the other person.”
Guys: They all voted it as ‘very important’ (we sorta guessed they would, right?) and, as Yogesh stated, “It represents how much a couple love each other.” (A wee bit archaic there, buddy! Implies demanding conjugal rights.) So there you have it people — the ‘street beat’ as it were, on relationships. From what we can tell, someone out there’s gonna be real disappointed when reality bites.
