Poonam Bhagat’s new collection for her label Taika is rich in natural fabrics with embroideries borrowed from different regions of the world. Poonam has deftly combined light gossamer fabrics like organza with heavier and richer silks and lined them with traditional motifs.

The summer palette went from fresh and fruity to dark and passionate. White georgette saris were hand painted by German artists Lena Weyer. Short kurtis were teamed with raw silk pants, matka silk wrap skirts took on summery hues in coral, orange and watermelon. The saris with their dull gold zardosi borders and motifs were worn with bustiers and were reminiscent of the bygone era.

Shuchi Sabarwal and Prateek Verma, graduates from the first batch of the Fashion Design and Information Technology (FDIT) programme at NIFT, have worked on a unique collection titled ‘Kahia’ or rare beauty. They’ve used leather on traditional outfits like the sari, lehenga and salwar-kameez. They’ve also worked their unique style on Western garments. Bold cuts, subtle colours and stylish drapes make their wearable collection worth checking out.
