White Hot!

|
White
is hot this season. And while you may use it during the day to keep cool, there
is absolutely no reason you can't use it at night to look hot. Casual, sexy or
classy - white can work for you even if you have a less-than-perfect body. We
got three designers to give you their take on different looks in white that will
not only make you look hot, but feel cool this summer. Take your pick!
For a Bohemian look, designer Surily
Goel suggests kaftans with embellishments of mother-of-pearl, sequins or
diamantes. "It shouldn't be plain," she says. You could also try a peasant top
with a flared skirt that could have some detailing, like embroidery. Halter
tops or single spaghetti tops with a full skirt also work well for a Bohemian
look.
"For a formal look, try a
short white shift dress. Its classic and sexy," says Surily.
For a party night out you could try
a short white skirt with some detailing. Or a white backless top. You could also
try something in a slinky material that conforms to the shape of your
body.
Style Tips: If you have a less-
than-perfect body, you could wear a fitted top and a voluminous skirt to hide
your hips. Or, if you have flabby arms, use scarves and stoles with a dash of
colour to hide them.
Arshiya of
Araaya suggests trying a skirt that is layered in georgette, chiffon, or cotton,
for a Bohemian look. Wear it with a fitted top, perhaps in jersey material. "A
white dress looks good for a formal occasion," says Arshiya. Try a knee-length
or calf-length dress. It could have cowls to give a softer look. For Arshiya, a
sexy look would mean showing a lot of skin. So go in for something sheer.
"Because that leaves something to the imagination and that is very sexy," says
Arshiya. Try a sheer top with a pair of well- fitted jeans. Or a short white
skirt with a slightly brighter
top.
Style Tips: If you are on the
heavier side, the garment should fit you perfectly. If you have a paunch, you
could have the top slightly fitted on the chest, but a little flared lower. With
white it is necessary to have a good cut and
fit.
Anita Dongre of AND
achieves the Bohemian look with a crushed white skirt, a fitted, sleeveless
denim jacket, accessorised with a colourful belt and a multi-coloured patch
bag. For a formal look, try well- fitted ankle pants in stretch linen and a
smartly styled, well -fitted white top. For a sexy look, she likes to stick to
soft, feminine designs. Try a white top in georgette with a little net and
chikan lace. The skirt can have a gentle A-line cut. It could be sheer with a
little show of skin.
Style Tips :
"It is a misconception that white is not flattering. If worn well it can be
completely flattering," says Anita Dongre. "The cut should be just right - not
too loose and not too tight. Depending on the cut white can look flattering even
on a large woman."
Accessorise
Right
When wearing white, it is good
to keep in mind your shoes. They can be transparent or white. Plain or with
diamantes. Heels elongate the body and makes you look slimmer. White flat
sandals are good for a Bohemian
look.
It is also important to apply
the right kind of make up when wearing white.
Make- up should be natural and not
over the top.
With jewellery, it is
best to stick to diamonds and white gold for formal occasions. To accessorise a
Bohemian look, stick with silver hoops, or a single silver choker or
chain.
